Sustainable Aviation Futures 2024 in Review and Crystal Ball Gazing Survey

Executive Summary

As the aviation industry races toward its 2030 decarbonisation targets, how confident are industry leaders that we’re on track? Our latest snapshot survey, conducted in late December 2024 and early January 2025 with our speakers and supporters, reveals some doubts. A majority of respondents expressed uncertainty or skepticism about meeting these goals without stronger industry and particularly government action.

Despite this, opportunities for scaling SAF are numerous, and our participants shared many routes which, with collaborative effort, could help the industry to meet and even exceed future targets. Policy support, particularly through government mandates and incentives, emerged as the most critical driver for SAF adoption, while investment gaps and regulatory uncertainty remain key hurdles. When asked which region is most likely to lead SAF production and adoption by 2030, Europe took the top spot, while confidence in North America’s leadership showed signs of political influence.

The results from this snapshot survey uncover insights into:

  • The biggest barriers to SAF scale-up

  • Which technologies industry experts see as having the greatest impact

  • The role of governments in accelerating progress and what actions the industry is calling for

The results paint a complex but actionable picture of the road ahead. Download the full report to explore the data, insights, and expert perspectives shaping the future of sustainable aviation.
