We recently spoke with Jean Paquin, President & CEO of the SAF+ Consortium based in Montreal, Canada about their pilot plant, the plans to scale their power-to-liquids by de-risking the technology, sourcing enough finance to fill the funding gap vi private equity, government grants and strategic partners from technology players/fuel suppliers and the airlines themselves.

We covered a lot of ground but it was fascinating to hear his viewpoint that US's IRA and now the RefuelEU will have a big impact on other Governments like Canada's attitude to using legislation. Jean maintains that true investment grade policy could incorporate some of both Europe's "stick-like" mandates and the USA's "carrot-like" subsidy.

Avinor own 44 airports across Norway and played a pioneering role by being the first international airport hub to include a SAF component in its fuel mix. Norway has been a pioneering country in aviation decarbonisation with a 0.5% SAF component and looks likely to play a pioneering role in the next stage of aviation decarbonisation the country's suitability to produce both E-Fuels and also encourages electric powertrains in light aviation (as it did in electric road transport).
